Berwyn is proud to be home to many women-owned and operated businesses. Here are just a few of the women making a name for themselves in our Handcrafted Community and beyond.

Luz is president and founder of Latinas On The Plaza, a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the pathway to success for women of color. In 2016, the organization launched its first cohort-based professional development program at the North Berwyn Park District. They also ran a women’s leadership program in Berwyn. The Berwyn community has been instrumental in the launch and continuation of the delivery of their programs. Now located in Brookfield, IL, Luz’s organization recruits students for programs from Berwyn and the metropolitan region of Chicago. Luz is an active member of the Berwyn Development Corporation, with a seat in the Women in Business Group as well as a seat in the BDC Roundtable for Nonprofits.

Dr. Garrison is the mother of two wonderful teenage boys and is married to a Berwyn native. Originally from central Illinois, she attended dental school in Indianapolis and has kept the smiles of families in Berwyn healthy and beautiful since 1998. Her time in the community both in business and through participation in Berwyn Health Fairs, volunteer work for Berwyn Thanksgiving food baskets, and Christmas for Sailors has made her patients feel like family. Dr. Garrison is proud to offer Berwyn the latest practices in oral health and individual attention that lead to a happy and healthy smile.

Kate is a lifetime Berwynite and has been styling hair for 18 years. For the past 11 years, she has been the proud owner of Big Tease Salon in the Depot District. She has created an atmosphere that is welcoming and well known in our community. Big Tease makes clients enjoy stopping by, and they often develop friendships with the staff and other clients! She is also a wonderful mom and works hard to balance parenting and owning a business.

A native of Chicago, Antonette was formally trained by her mother, a licensed cosmetologist and salon owner. Antonette’s interest in beauty and customer interaction comes from a nurturing spirit and love for the beauty industry. Since 2007, she has been licensed as a Clinical Esthetician in Illinois and Georgia, where she also spent some time as a clinic manager of American Laser Skincare. In Berwyn, she is the founder of Face2Face Spa Studio, where her wide array of certifications and experience from microblade eyebrows to laser treatments, chemical peels, body sculpting, and more keep her customers feeling and looking their best.

Melissa has been a Farmers Insurance agent for over 25 years, and during her career, she has earned many prestigious awards. Melissa is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), a prestigious organization for financial professionals in the insurance industry. Throughout her career, she has always focused on helping Berwyn and the surrounding communities. Melissa shares her passion by working with the Latino community in helping them through the process of selecting the right insurance coverage tailored to their individual needs. Since she was a little girl, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and many other forms of martial arts were Taylor’s therapy. She also felt it was gravely important for young women in particular to have an understanding of self-defense. Taylor firmly believes in the role physical fitness plays in increased self-esteem and decreased depression. As a former mental health and art therapist, Taylor sought to create a safe space for individuals of all ages and skillsets that would bridge the gap between mental wellbeing and physical fitness. That space is now known as The Alley Fitness Boxing Gym. Established in 2016, the business offers kids’ boxing, adult cardio boxing, adult kickboxing/ sparring, boxing for Parkinson’s, and adult Tabata HIIT boot camps. Taylor has created an environment full of support and accountability that pushes its members to be the best version of themselves.

Jarmila (Mila) has been a dedicated massage therapist since 2011. Her goal is to provide pain relief and relaxation through high quality, professional, and customized massage therapy incorporating various techniques into each session. Her qualifications are not limited to being National and Board Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, she is also a Certified Lymphatic Drainage Therapist, Reiki Master, and Certified Yoga Teacher.
