Parks & Green Spaces
It’s been said that “parks and playgrounds are the soul of a city.” In Berwyn, you’ll find lush gardens, bright colored playgrounds and fields of dreams. Our parks & green spaces offer a wide variety of tranquility and joy to be enjoyed all year long.
Formerly known as Cuyler Pool, Hett Park is home to Brocato Playground, the Studio, a new dance and fitness facility, as well as a water park located at 19th St and Cuyler Ave.
Pavek Community Center
Pavek Community Center offers a gym, Pavek Pool, sport courts and meeting rooms. Activities are available for every member of the family, from 3 years old to seniors. Pavek Community Center also the main office of the Berwyn Recreation Department.
Kriz Skate Park
At 15th & Maple, you’ll find Kriz Skate Park. This concrete park is perfect for skaters looking to start or practice this hot extreme sport. Open seasonally, Kriz Skate Park serves teens and adults in our community who enjoy skating or want to relax and watch the action. Grab your board and get out there.
Jefferson Park Field
Jefferson Park Field at 16th and Wenonah is an artificial turf field perfect for t-ball, soccer, flag football and various other activities. This park is available through a collaboration with the Berwyn School District 98. Come out to play or bring a chair to catch a community game.
Mothers on a Mission Playground
Mothers on a Mission Playground is located at Berwyn Gardens, this all-inclusive playground provides unique play equipment accessible to children in wheelchairs as well as sensory boards for fun learning.
Step away from the hustle and bustle of Cermak Road and into the relaxing Berwyn Gardens just north of Cermak. Also home to the KaBOOM! Mothers on a Mission Park, Berwyn Gardens features game tables, a gazebo, an age-specific modular play set, benches, shade trees, ornamental trees, flowering shrubs, rolling berms, serpentine pathway, and sprawling green space.
Head over to this little ray of sunshine park, complete with a sand volleyball court, sand playground for toddlers, bocci ball courts, a gazebo, play structure, and the whole park is available for picnic rental. It is also home to the Berwyn Park District’s maintenance department.
Pyrce Park is located on 16th St & Wesley Ave, featuring a spray pool, two age-specific modular play units, swing set, benches, picnic area complete with beautiful ornamental trees and flowering shrubs.
Smirz Park boasts one of the best skate parks in the area as well as a KaBOOM! Playground and plenty of green space for little ones to run around and enjoy on a sunny day.
Hessler Park is a passive park complete with a playground located at 34th and Kenilworth.
Mraz Park is a passive park located in the heart of the town, featuring a veteran’s flagpole and the Centennial Fountain. The park is perfect for reading, chatting with a friend or a selfie or two.
Friendship Park includes the Piper Elementary School playground in the heart of Berwyn’s Depot District. The playground was recently renovated by KaBOOM!, Piper staff and volunteers, provided students and the community a new and improved play area. The playground is open until dusk during the week and is open to the community on weekends.
Karban Dog Park
Bring your beloved fur babies to Karban Dog Park, Berwyn’s only designated off-leash dog park. Enjoy some unstructured play time, Frisbee or fetch, dog training and socializing with other dogs. At Karban Dog Park, you and your pups can make friends and socialize with fellow humans and fur babies alike while spending some time outdoors. Berwyn residents can pick up the permit at Freedom Park.
As of May 1, 2018, leashed dogs are now allowed in all Berwyn Park District parks. Bring your leashed pup to any of the 13 facilities which are pup-friendly dog parks.
The Berwyn Park District (BPD) provides over 200 activities in 13 facilities on the south side of Berwyn.
In the heart of Berwyn’s Depot District, you will find a little slice of heaven at Karasek Park. This pocket of nature is an oasis of relaxation for residents, visitors and commuters alike who need a break from the hustle and bustle of life. Bring your lunch, a good book, a friend or two, or just yourself—Karasek Park boasts plenty of space with benches and picnic tables to kick back and enjoy nature and admire the stunning mural by (artist name here).
The Berwyn Park District’s largest park, Proska Park, boasts many amenities. Of these, you’ll enjoy three lighted tennis courts, two lighted baseball diamonds, a children’s garden, the Baldwin Playground Area.
For a more serene experience pack a basket to enjoy you pick of two picnic groves, ponds, and a creek. The Proksa Activity center offer space rentals, offices and a preschool classroom. Throw your next event, big or small, play some ball. Come enjoy nature!
Freedom Park is alive with laughter throughout the lighted, synthetic turf soccer field, picnic area, children’s water park and playground area. At Freedom Park you can also find
the Berwyn Park District administrative office. Home to a board meeting room and preschool classroom, private facility rentals. Passes are available for picnics, the soccer field and more.
Budding gardeners and experts alike can find a bit of serenity at this appropriately named park where you will find community garden plots.
