It’s Patio Season
How to make the most of Berwyn’s outdoor dining.
A warm day in our fair City isn’t easy to come by, with most of the year being, let’s face it, winter. The summer season may officially run June 20-September 22, but we all know you cannot count on those dates for actual summer in our region. What you can count on is Berwyn’s plentiful outdoor dining establishments. One of the best things about summer is patio season. So if you’re going to make the most of your summer, you can’t waste any potential patio time! Get out there and dine al fresco in Berwyn. We’ve put together your ultimate patio guide.
First up is the ever popular Lavergne’s Tavern. Known for their diverse menu full of favorite flavors (e.g., their masterful Italian Beef eggrolls), Lavergne’s Tavern also serves up some serious outdoor atmosphere. Dine in, or should we say dine out, and feast your eyes on their mural courtesy of the Berwyn Public Art Initiative and Brazilian artist Cranio (also known as Fabio de Oliveira Parnaiba). An amazing drink list and plenty of popular beers on tap just add to all the reasons this place truly has everything you need for summer dining.
If you’re in the mood for pizza and Italian delights, head east down Route 66 to Paisans Pizzeria & Bar! With its automotive-inspired décor, this spot is right at home on Berwyn’s piece of the Mother Road. Grab a seat and chow down on Paisans Pizzeria’s award-winning pizza, burgers, salads, and wings. The roomy patio space is great for outdoor dining with the whole family. Head inside to catch more Route 66 vibes with custom motorcycles and a dragster on display.
A must on your summertime bucket list should always be sipping a cocktail on VBar’s beautiful outdoor brick patio. Pair your cocktail with an artfully crafted treat from Crepas Culichi. These establishments share a beautiful patio with plenty of seating to soak in those much needed rays.
The Garage Smokehouse and Bar in Berwyn’s Depot District has a tall beer list for hot summer days. Add in a full menu of delicious BBQ inspired eats, and you’re ready to grab a seat on their outdoor patio. Whether you’re looking to enjoy dinner outdoors with the family or a bite in the fresh air during your lunch break, The Garage Smokehouse has got something for everybody.
Follow the sound of mariachi music to the iconic 1920’s Berwyn town bank building where you’ll find El Nuevo Vallarta Sports Bar and Grill. El Nuevo Vallarta offers an expansive Mexican and seafood menu during lunch and dinner, seven days a week, along with a fully stocked bar. Their outdoor seating area is the ideal spot to catch live mariachi music, a perfect pairing with their delicious food. Try their Salmon Tropical featured in the Berwyn Bites: Seafood blog. It’s a light dish consisting of a salmon fillet with mango-butter sauce, topped with mango pico de gallo, and served with rice and vegetables.
Featured in the Chicago Tribune’s list of their 24 favorite appetizers in Chicagoland area restaurants for their picaditas and voted Chicago’s Best pozole, La Lupita Restaurant is a family-owned Mexican restaurant featuring some of the best Mexican food around. Take it up a notch and dine out on their authentic, award-winning cuisine on a colorful, welcoming patio.
Buona Beef has been serving up Chicago’s best Italian beef since 1981. Located on the Veltway, their patio is a prime spot to enjoy a delicious Italian beef or any of their delicious menu items while surrounded by the liveliness of Roosevelt Road. You’re just steps away from live entertainment and nightlife, so Buona Beef makes a great outdoor spot before or after a show. Family owned for three generations, the menu is a blend of old-school Chicago classics and next-generation options, all made from scratch with fresh ingredients. While the menu has expanded, their original commitment to deliciousness remains the same!
If you’re in the mood for authentic Italian cuisine, look no further than Capri Ristorante and Capri Ristorante Due. Sit down for a nice meal at Capri Ristorante on the Veltway before heading to FitzGerald’s next door. If you’re in the Depot, take a seat at Capri Due’s patio, complete with beautifully set tables and twinkling lights before you head out for an art stroll along the tracks.
