Berwyn Holiday Fund Prepares Christmas Dinner for Families in Need

For the seventh straight year, the Berwyn Holiday Fund is set to deliver over 400 Christmas dinners to area families this Saturday, December 19. Beginning at 9:00am at the Liberty Cultural Center in Berwyn, volunteers will pack over $18,000 worth of food into boxes and then deliver them across the City of Berwyn to families in need.

“Sometimes we tend to lose sight about the real meaning of Christmas,” said Berwyn Holiday Fund cofounder Mayor Robert J. Lovero. “Christmas offers a great time to reach out to help and connect with our neighbors. That’s why we started this initiative.”

It is anticipated that over 100 volunteers will donate their time on Saturday as they pack and deliver the Christmas dinner. Additionally, all of the proceeds for the event are donated by area businesses and individuals.

Along with the Christmas dinners, the Berwyn Holiday Fund feeds over 300 individuals on Thanksgiving Day and hosts 105 sailors from Great Lakes Naval Base on Christmas Day. In addition to companionship, the Holiday Fund provides the sailors with cell phones and computers, allowing them to connect with family with whom they are unable to share Christmas.
