Why Berwyn? Because we thrive on our diversity and inclusion. With over 56,000 residents and a median age of 34.5, Berwyn caters to an increasingly diverse community.
Diversity & Inclusion
As Berwyn grows in the 21st century, its traditionally middle-class, mostly blue collar families who were admittedly conservative in their outlook are being joined by young, professional families and a growing population of LGBTQ+ residents. Over the past 2 years, the City of Berwyn declared the month of June Pride Month in the community and in 2018 the City accepted a proclamation declaring October LGBT History Month in Berwyn. June 2019 will mark the 3rd annual Pride Walk Parade in Berwyn’s Depot District. LGBTQ blogs
Growing Latino Community
Over the years, Berwyn’s Latino community has grown to represent over 60% percent of the City’s population. As a result, Berwyn celebrates the Latino community through a variety of community events. In August 2018 the North Berwyn Park District expanded their annual Fiesta Nuestras Raices Mariachi Fest to include the City’s first CARA-certified Corrida del Mariachi 5K Run/Walk. This annual tradition provides entertainment for families to come together and celebrate through mariachi music, traditional ballet folkloric dancing, and a celebration of arts, culture and culinary delight. In September 2018, the City of Berwyn proudly announced a resolution commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, 2018.
